== Instalasi PHP dan MySQL ==
Kita akan menginstal php5-cgi, karena PHP akan dipanggil melalui modul FastCGI di nginx. Instalasi paket:
 sudo apt-get install php5-cgi php5-mysql mysql-server

Jika memerlukan, Anda bisa juga menginstal modul php yang lain. Untuk melihat daftar modul php5 yang ada di repo ubuntu.
 apt-cache search php5-

== Skrip PHP sebagai FCGI ==
Tidak seperti Apache atau Lighttpd, Nginx tidak secara otomatis menjalankan proses FCGI. Anda harus menjalankannya secara terpisah. Ada banyak cara untuk menjalankan program FCGI untuk php, tapi yang akan dijelaskan dibawah ini adalah menjalankan PHP dalam mode FCGI server.

Yang perlu Anda buat adalah dua berkas, <tt>/etc/default/php-fastcgi</tt> dan <tt>/etc/init.d/php-fastcgi</tt>. Contoh filenya bisa dilihat di bawah ini.
